A Guide to Getting Your Business on Board with Trello

Kanban (Japanese for ‘signboard’ or ‘billboard’) is a scheduling system first used in manufacturing. It’s formed the basis for a number of ‘board’ style apps and programs, helping people organise their time and projects. One of the most popular of these is Trello.

Who can use Trello?

Trello can be used by individuals or as a team to monitor and plan for almost any type of project. It uses a system of boards, lists, and cards for anything from major company endeavours, to planning a wedding, novel, or holiday.

It’s a popular tool used by companies like Google, National Geographic and Adobe, to name but a few. We tried it out here at Team Organic, too!

How does Trello work?

First, you simply create and name a board. Next, add lists of tasks, or project steps. The items on the lists are cards you create. You’ll only see the card title on your list, but any additional info you want to add, such as due dates, checklists and comments, can be seen with a simple click.

It’s highly customisable, and can be integrated into other systems and apps. Using Trello with IFTT (If This, Then That) automation, allows you to link your Trello boards to Pinterest, Todoist, Evernote, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Slack, iOS Reminders…

It also syncs with all your devices, so you can access and edit your boards on your PC, laptop or any Android or iOS device.

Trello packages

Free package

Trello has a free package aimed at individuals, making it perfect for freelancers. However, you also get access to 10 Team Boards, so it’s a great way to give it a free trial.  You’ll have unlimited personal boards, unlimited cards, unlimited lists, and up to 10MB file attachment.

Business Class package

This package costs $9.99 per user per month (paid annually). It upgrades the file sizes allowed, gives you unlimited power-ups and Team Boards, and a huge number of customisable stickers and backgrounds. The extra security and admin options are useful too.

Enterprise Class package

Prices for this package start at $20.83 per user per month for 20 users, scaling down to just $5.92 per user per month for 5,000 users. It offers advanced automation, unlimited command runs and even more admin and security options, such as organisation-wide permissions and attachment restrictions.
