What is your job title?
Social Media Executive/Social Media Manager
Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.
I create, manage, and collate content for businesses who wish to have a social media presence. I work with clients to bring their brand to life on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
What is a typical working day like for you?
My day always starts with a cup of tea, before I sit down to check out the social media notifications for the platforms I manage. Next I move onto my emails, and address any issues that may have popped up overnight.
Throughout the day I am working on graphics and content plans, responding to messages on behalf of our clients, as well as curating content.
Depending on the time of week, I will also be scheduling social media posts.
What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?
If you have a very niche client it can be hard to find content that is relevant to them. It can take a lot of digging and out-of-the-box thinking.
What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?
The lack of knowledge they have regarding digital marketing. Some of my clients don’t use social media, or have very minimal social media profiles. They don’t have the time or the knowledge to put together a social media strategy, which is where I come in.
How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?
A lot of the job requires creativity and it’s great that I get to use that aspect of myself, to generate graphics and copy for their social media accounts. It can be a challenge sometimes, thinking out of the box, but I enjoy that part of the job.
Also, communication is very important. You need to be able to tell a story that the audience identifies with in order to engage them. Without excellent communication skills I wouldn’t be able to find that connection in order to engage the client’s audience.
What is your favourite part of the job?
The people. The people in my office really make me laugh. There is a very close knit, familial atmosphere and we all pitch in and support each other.
What do you like most about working for Team Organic?
Team Organic is geared towards employee comfort. It was a joy coming to work here because it’s like a home away from home in some respects, which is great. The company really embraces each person’s unique attributes. We are also a very open group, we can discuss anything and still be respectful to one another and have a laugh.
What skills do you find most useful to do your job?
Organisation is a must in my job! I am constantly juggling calendars, schedules and content, and it’s important that the right thing goes out on the correct platform.
Flexibility is also a key skill. At any point, an event or news story could happen that affects your carefully planned schedule, and you have to be able to react to it at a moment’s notice.
Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?
The library! I am a huge fan of reading and believe in using community services as much as I can. I’m lucky to have such a wonderful building quite close by to where I live.
Tell us about your proudest achievement.
Learning to sew at the age of 32! I made a pillow. I love my pillow.
How would your colleagues describe you?
Friendly, definitely a feeder. We have a snack basket in the centre of our desks and I’m always making sure it’s full and trying to cajole people into having a few biscuits.

Who do you admire, and why?
My husband, because he has to deal with me and my crazy, creative moments, and he supports me at every turn.
