Is Micro Blogging the Future of Content?

Microblogging is the new kid on the content block. It’s the art (and there does seem to be an art to it) of posting short, punchy updates that still tell a story. Microblogging has been popping up all over social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. But what is it?

What is microblogging?

Whilst blog posts for websites tend to be longer pieces of researched content, microblogs are described as social media snippets.

The purpose of microblogging is to allow a more intimate, personal engagement with your audience. Rather than a short caption, a micro blog does more to explain the context of what the audience are seeing.

What can microblogging be used for?

Microblogging is a way of promoting yourself in bitesized chunks, channelling traffic back to your site. It is a great way to take advantage of specific hashtags in order to boost your engagement. By doing this, essentially you are opening up your content to a like minded community.

What is important, though, is making sure that the discussions you are joining in with are relevant to your brand. If they’re not, you run the risk of appearing false and pushing sales. What a turn-off!

Who can use microblogging techniques?

Brands with a strong visual presence are excellent candidates for microblogging. Anyone performing well on Tumblr, Instagram or Pinterest is likely to make the cut. It’s because their posts are usually short, yet informative, and can drive traffic. Our top tip? Make sure to link your images back to your blog, so that your followers can click through if they want to.
