Team Organic’s To-Don’t List

Employee burnout is becoming the latest topic of conversation within the business sector. Quite frankly, it’s a worrying prospect. Yet, instead of focusing on the bad stuff; demanding workloads and overpopulated to-dos lists; we’re focusing on helpful advice that may help the day-to-day.

Inspired by one of the world’s 10 most influential management thinkers and Fortune’s 40 under 40, Adam Grant, we’re letting you in on our very own To-Don’t list. It’s the list of things not to do, which we try to adhere to each day to enhance productivity levels and maximise personal wellbeing.

“Productivity isn’t about time management. It’s about attention management.” — Adam Grant

Lizzy – SEO Content Writer

It’s very easy to get bogged down with other people’s work, but this can damage motivation. It’s one thing to offer help and support if a colleague is struggling, but it’s important to remember your own capacity. Yes, pull together as a team, but be sure that it’s not all one-sided. It can only result in exhaustion or stress so assist when you can, but do not give the world, when you physically can’t.

Donna – Social Media Manager

As there are many clients and posts to account for, it’s important to not get overly bogged down or become too disheartened by time frames. You can’t realistically squeeze everything in via a plan that is structured by the minute.

There are clients to liaise with, content to produce, there’s never enough time in the day, and that’s okay! However, it’s not okay to work through your lunch so that you can do everything for everyone. Do not skip lunch, and do not beat yourself up when you don’t manage to schedule one-month’s-worth of content in a single day.

Phil – Account Manager

Though my job revolves around being on the phone to clients all day, my ‘do not’, seems almost contradictory; do not become distracted by your mobile phone during office hours.

It’s easier said than done when there’s a reason to reach for your smartphone; clients who are in contact via WhatsApp, you’re helping out with marketing research via social, or you’re simply just switching over to a new music playlist. It’s important that whatever action you have to fulfil on your smartphone, isn’t followed by wasted time filled with unproductive scrolling or browsing. Be strict!

Karl – SEO whiz-ard and TO Manager

SEO trends are susceptible to change, we’ve got Google’s algorithm to thank for always keeping us on our toes. And so to get businesses ranking well organically, we must remain on-point with the latest, ethical SEO strategies in order to comply with Google’s conditions. Do not use unethical processes such as Black Hat SEO to illegally grow site traffic; bad measures lead to even grizzlier consequences, blacklisting.

On a lighter note, I’m a firm believer of a structured lunch date which, for me, consists of plugging into Bargain Hunt. Do not take your lunch at any old time of the day, as it may disrupt small pleasures such as watching the Red Team make a profit at auction.

The show is a personal favourite, scheduled at the same time Monday-to-Friday. It ensures I’m consistently tuning in throughout the week. So that no matter how caught up I get in clients’ websites, I’ve always got Bargain Hunt and butties to tear me away.
