If you’ve been the victim of a cyber attack, you’ll know all too well how severely it can damage your business. Not only can you lose important company documentation and records, but in the most extreme circumstances, you and your staff could even become victims of identity fraud.
Since cyber attacks aren’t instantly visible, it’s easy to become a victim of it if you fail to take the proper precautions.
When setting your company up digitally after being victim to a cyber attack, you should take extra measures to make sure you don’t become a victim of the same crime.
This can mean taking as much of your information to the cloud as possible, using extremely strong passwords and only handing them to staff on a need-to-know basis. Here are Team Organic’s top tips on keeping your business’ information safe after you’ve been a victim of a cyber attack.
Get password savvy
One of the most important steps to take after you’ve been the victim of a cyber attack is to reset all your passwords.
We all know that resetting passwords can be a huge pain – especially since our brains can only hold so much information! But that shouldn’t set you back.
Choose a strong password that isn’t easy to guess. This should include capital and lower case letters, numbers and to be extra safe, should be made up of two to three different words.
You should also make sure you don’t use the same password across different platforms – for example, your computer login password should not be the same as your social media logins.
Keep tabs on remote workers
If you have staff who work remotely, make sure they’re handling any sensitive information with care.
It can be easy to think that working away while sat in a café or library poses no risk at all, but working in public spaces with sensitive information can cause no end of security problems.
Speak to your remote workers about where they work and how to deal with sensitive information when they’re out of the office.
Update your tech
If you’re working with outdated technology, you’ll be much more prone to future cyber attacks – you could even be specifically targeted because of it!
For those who have already been the victim of a digital security breach, updating your systems is vital when getting back on your feet.
It’s also likely that more up-to-date tech will provide you with regular backups, which is important if you’re worried about a potential loss of information.
